Stop Using Pirate-Style Motivation

Updated: Oct 7, 2024

As I was leaving the grocery store one day I saw a man with a T-shirt on that caught my eye.

It had a pirate ship on it and said, "The beatings will continue until morale improves."

It made me laugh.

Pirate-style self-beatings are not motivating

Until I realized that we take that approach with ourselves when we’re stuck in a cycle of self-criticism.

Believing that if you're harder on yourself, you'll achieve more.

Or maybe you set your expectations higher, thinking it will motivate you.

But have you noticed that it doesn't work very well?

Using self-criticism as an incentive for doing something, means it will be done with the “flavor” of self-criticism - and the result will never be good enough because that critical voice can actually never be satisfied.

Morale will never improve when beatings are what’s used to motivate you.

So I’ve come up with something that creates REAL Motivation.

And YOU are invited to join me! 🥳

What: Monday Motivation

When: 9:30-10am MST

Where: OnZoom

Why: Because you are meant to feel joy and lead a fulfilling life - and self-criticism doesn’t help you achieve that - And Because it's FREE!

Motivation is simply a willingness to take action.

It’s nearly impossible to hold onto that willingness if you’re criticizing yourself all the time.

Stop using Pirate-style motivational techniques.

And start using the knowledge of what motivates your brain to transform how you approach your week - and life!

Registration is open and classes will run every Monday thru the end of the year.

See you Monday!

Xo,

Meredith
