Turn Planning Into Your Secret Skill

From an early age I loved making lists.

Lists of gifts to give and gifts to ask for.

Lists of tasks to get done.

Bucket lists of Summer activities.

When I run out of an item, I add it to my grocery list.

When I hear about a good book, it goes on my "Books to Read" list.

And so on and so on.

Turn Planning Ahead Your Secret Skill, To-Do Lists, Motivation, Get things done

Crossing things off my lists feels very satisfying to me.

But as I became an adult and those lists became full of tasks that felt heavier and more serious if they didn't get done, the items NOT crossed off created great discomfort for me.

Years went by before I knew what that discomfort was called...

ANXIETY.

I became trapped between my desire to make lists and my anxiety over leaving things undone.

It caused me to stay up late to get things done so I could sleep better. Except, I didn't sleep better.

I felt very bad about myself when I didn't get enough done (who decides that anyway?)

Something had to change. I could stop making lists, or I could stop allowing the lists to affect me so negatively.

I decided on that latter. Because I really love making lists!

My weekly To-Do list also got a make-over.

It focuses more on how I want to FEEL as I cross off tasks, than just on the tasks themselves.

It focuses on how I can create connection with myself and identifies where I need support.

It's helping me live a more joyful and fulfilling life, one week at a a time.

And I want to share it with you. Here you go :)

This is the Framework I use with those who attend Monday Motivation at 9:30am MST.

It's about more than just crossing things off your to-do list.

For example, when filling in the "SELF-CONNECT" box, sit with yourself for a couple of minutes and write down what you notice in your body: Tension in neck, ease of mind, heat in cheeks, churning in stomach etc. It's literally a moment to stop and check in with yourself.

In the "NEEDED SUPPORT" square, identify what gaps you are experiencing that might be creating discomfort. Gaps in relationships, in confidence, in skills etc.

When you plan your week from a self-connected space, you will not believe how smoothly you move through your day - even if it doesn't go as planned.

Join me on Monday October 14th and I'll walk through this Framework with you.

Turn planning into your secret skill, and change your life, one week at a time!

Xo,

Meredith
